Effects of Acupuncture at the Chok - Sammi ( ST36 ) locus on Plasma Renin Activity and Plasma Aldosterone , Electrolyte Levels in Men

Abstract
The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of acupuncture on plasma levels of aldosterone and electrolytes and plasma renin activity in men.
24 healthy volunteers were needled at both sides Chok-Samni(ST_(36)) and non-point locus.
Blood samples were withdrawn before acupuncture and 10, 20 and 40 min. after acupuncture.
Needling was started at 10 : 00 a.m ald 17 : 00 p.m.
The obtained results were summarized as follaws.
A tendency the decrease in plasma renin activity were observed.
Acupuncture treatment had a tendency to decrease at 10 : 00 a.m and increase at 17 : 00 p.m in plasma renin activity and sodium and potassium plasma aldosterone level was increased after acupuncture at 10 : 00 a.m but was not shown to change after acupuncture at 17 : 00 p.m.
These results showed the effect of acupuncture at 10 : 00 a.m at 17 : 00 p.m was contrary to effect of acupuncture.
These results showed that effect of acupuncture at 10 : 00 a.m on plasma renin activity, plasma level of aldosterone and electrolytes contrary to that of acupuncture at 17 : 00 p.m and suggest that acupuncture seems to have an effect on the control of water metabolism.
